Lithgow’s Secret Creek Sanctuary Cultural and Visitor Centre is set to benefit from NSW Government funding.
The venue has received significant financial support since the devastating bushfires of 2019/2020 with major upgrades and building projects transforming the precinct into a wildlife haven.
Member for Bathurst Paul Toole has this week announced a Community Building Partnership grant of $20,000 for the Sanctuary.
He said the support will allow for the upgrading of the carpark to improve safety and accessibility for the community and daily visitors.
“We’ve seen the $1.3 million development of the Wildlife Hospital and Rehabilitation Centre which will serve the Blue Mountains and Central West region,” Mr Toole said.
“The need for a wildlife hospital and rehabilitation centre were highlighted following the devastating 2019/20 bushfires in which many animals were killed or displaced and in need of care to replenish numbers.
“The Secret Creek Sanctuary Wildlife Hospital and Rehabilitation Centre will also cater for staff accommodation and meeting space.”
Mr Toole said there is also a new Cultural & Visitor Centre which is the new welcoming entry into the Sanctuary.
“A cultural arts centre will be located on the second floor of the visitor centre in collaboration with local Indigenous group One Mob to serve multiple uses including a gathering space for Aboriginal culture education groups, learning space for wildlife and ecosystems and a health and wellbeing community centre for the local community.”
