The dedicated team of volunteers at the Portland Golf Club are gearing up to have the course looking in pristine condition now that the warmer, spring weather has arrived.

Member for Bathurst Paul Toole recently announced the club would receive a Community Building Partnership (CBP) grant of $27,000 which has now enabled it to purchase a new ride-on mower.

However, this is no ordinary mower as it’s a top-of-the-line Kubota direct drive model which excels in tough going and is ideal for cutting the rough between the fairways to the ideal height.

Mr Toole said Portland Golf Club might only be a small club, but nevertheless plays an important role in the social lives of both locals and visitors alike.

“Without their volunteers the club would really struggle to survive, so it’s great to be able to help out with the purchase of a new mower to help make their life a little bit easier,” he said.

“It’s a big day when you have to sit on a mower for hours at a time and I know a mower of this size and quality will make a huge difference for their time management to ensure the fairways are always looking their very best.”

Mr Toole said Portland Golf Club is widely regarded as one of the most challenging sand green courses in NSW.

He said it’s a beautiful and undulating nine-hole course with 18 different tees, offering a combination of traditional links and parkland elements which gives golfers a great experience and enjoyable game with weekend competition for both men and women.
