The World Athletics Cross Country Championships incorporating the World Masters Cross Country Championships will be held in Australia for the first time in 25 years.
Bathurst has been selected as the location to host the International Series event which will bring over 5000 competitors to the region.
Destination NSW has invested millions into the event to deliver the World Championships. The Regional Events Acceleration funding has attracted this global event to regional NSW and will include city-wide activation and festivalisation of Bathurst’s CBD whilst the World Masters Athletics Cross Country Championships takes place.
An additional $424,673 in funding from the NSW Government is being announced today to expand the categories available to participants over the two-day competition. The World Masters Athletics Short Course Cross Country Championships will now be held on the same course.
Deputy Premier, Minister for Regional NSW and Member for Bathurst said this event is big news for the Bathurst region.
“Mount Panorama is the holy ground of motorsports but now manpower will be conquering the mountain,” Mr Toole said.
“The NSW Government’s contribution to bring this event to regional NSW is predicted to bring thousands of visitors to the region.”
“This event will bring visitors and competitors from around the world boosting the region’s tourism immensely.”
After two postponements of the event due to the pandemic in 2021 and 2022, WXC Bathurst 2023 is now full steam ahead. Tickets and registrations for WXC Bathurst 2023 have recently gone on sale, with more information at https://www.worldathleticscrosscountry.com/
