A vision to build a multi-sports complex on the outskirts of Oberon has become a reality with the project finally complete.

In 2019 Member for Bathurst Paul Toole announced $2 million to kick start the project. A further investment of $4.8 million from the Bushfire Local Economic Recovery Fund was added in 2021 to ensure the vision for the sports hub could proceed.

“These are exciting times for Oberon with the first of it’s kind sporting facility open for use at the entrance to the township, just off the O’Connell Road,” Mr Toole said.

“I have been a strong supporter of this project right from the beginning because it means Oberon locals no longer have to travel to play sport, local teams have a home ground to host matches and this will encourage an uptick in sport participation across the region.

“This is a project that has been in the pipeline for several years with an eight-hectare parcel of land transformed into state-of-the-art sporting facilities for both Oberon locals and visitors alike.

“The relocation of the Oberon Tigers home ground will create a sports hub featuring two rugby league fields, three netball courts, a clubhouse, spectator seating and amenities.

“It is envisaged that future stages will include the construction of a synthetic hockey field.”
