The team at the Oberon RSL Sub Branch are elated.
They have received notification from the Member for Bathurst Paul Toole that their application for a NSW Government Community Building Partnership (CBP) grant has been successful.
The $17,000 funding boost for the sub branch means the War Memorial Wall out the front of the Oberon Military Museum in Oberon Street can receive a much-needed makeover.
It features a brick pedestal with a light on top and several brass dedication plaques commemorating various conflicts attached. Behind this is a brick wall painted yellow, with service badges attached, and a flagpole.
“The War Memorial Wall is a vitally important part of the Oberon streetscape and was dedicated back in 2003,” Mr Toole said.
“However, the ravages of two decades being exposed to the harsh local climate has taken its toll on the monument, but thanks to this funding the wall can now be rebuilt and given a new lease of life.”
Mr Toole said the brick pedestal under the light of the Memorial Wall was built from bricks from the original home owned by CW Cunynghame Jr and that these could now be retained as part of the rebuilding process.
