Oberon Golf Club will be upgrading its facilities thanks to the NSW Government.
A $121,546 grant secured from the NSW Government’s Stronger Country Communities program will fund construction of the upgrades.
The upgrades include a new front entrance to the clubhouse with better weather protection, the toilets will be refurbished and work, health and safety risks will be reduced by the extension of the workshop shed to better accommodate all equipment and chemicals that need storing.
Deputy Premier and Member for Bathurst Paul Toole said the upgrades will keep the club going strong.
“Oberon Golf Club is a big part of the local community and these upgrades will ensure everyone can continue to enjoy what is on offer,” Mr Toole said.
“Now the facilities will match the high quality of the lush green fairways.”
Today’s announcement follows a recent injection of $25,000 from the NSW Government to drought proof the golf course plus $50,000 for the purchase of a new mower.
Club owner Barry Lang said this is big news for Oberon locals.
“We are so grateful for Paul Toole’s ongoing support that has allowed us to continue to operate throughout drought, flooding and pandemic,” Mr Lang said.
“You don’t have to enjoy golf to enjoy our club, we are here for the community and now with our upgraded facilities will remain to be.”
The Stronger Country Communities Fund had delivered more than 2000 grassroots projects, benefitting every Local Government Area in regional NSW.
Mr Toole said “We all know how important it is for communities to have great places to come together to build social connections and boost their wellbeing through sport or community events.
“It’s the little things that make a big difference to the way we all work, live, play and do business, and the NSW Liberals and Nationals in Government are delivering the projects that make a difference to everyday life right across regional NSW, from Byron Bay to Bega to Broken Hill.”
Round Five of the Stronger Country Communities Fund will support local community and sporting infrastructure projects, street beautification, public programs and events that display the best of local character and community spirit.
The Stronger Country Communities Fund is part of the NSW Government’s $3.3 billion Regional Growth Fund, designed to support growing regional centres, activate local economies and improve services and community infrastructure in the regions.
