O’CONNELL RECREATION GROUND STARTING TO TAKE SHAPE

THE community at O’Connell are set to have their very own recreation ground.

Last year the Member for Bathurst Paul Toole announced the NSW Government would fund stage one of the development with a grant of $349,579.

That dream is now starting to become a reality with work to secure the site underway.

A timber post and rail fence is being constructed along the O’Connell Road just down from the Beaconsfield Road intersection.

However, the good news for O’Connell keeps on coming with Mr Toole announcing another $221,000 in funding for the project.

“This brings the support for the O’Connell Recreation Ground to more than $570,000” - Paul Toole MP

“The latest grant is joint Australian and NSW Government funding as part of the Bushfire Community Recovery and Resilience Fund (BCRRF)

Mr Toole said Oberon Council purchased a considerable parcel of land in the village for the purpose of developing a recreation ground.

“A recreation ground could host any number of special events and functions that have the potential to bring people from far and wide to O’Connell which is a central venue between Bathurst, Lithgow and Oberon.”

Mr Toole said the local community is very excited at having the village’s very own recreational ground.

“It’s going to have a cricket oval in the middle complete with a picket fence as the centre piece,” he said.

“O’Connell has a growing community and with more and more people opting for a rural and semi-rural lifestyle, establishing a recreation ground in the village is something that has been talked about for a number of years.”
