NEW LOOK FOR CARCOAR RECREATION GROUND

The Coarcoar Sport and Recreation Ground has been transformed into a facility that all the community can enjoy.

Major upgrades to the venue were officially opened at a community gathering on Saturday (March 27) by Member for Bathurst Paul Toole and Blayney Mayor Scott Ferguson.

Funding of $322,000 from the NSW Government allowed the project to become a reality.

The once rundown tennis courts have been replaced with new multi-purpose courts which are located next to the new amenities block which also includes showers and an undercover barbecue area.

Even the nearby playground has received a makeover with new equipment and extensive shade sails installed.

Member for Bathurst Paul Toole joined locals for a special celebration organised by the village committee.

“This project really has seen a transformation of the Carcoar Rec Ground into something special,” he said.

“The showers and change rooms combined with the toilets and barbecue area means the footy oval can host events as well as the benefits for the community of having the multi-purpose courts and playground area.”

Mayor Scott Ferguson said gone are the rundown tennis courts which were more of a blight on the landscape.

“You wouldn’t know the place now,” he said. “This funding has allowed council to give the Rec Ground a new lease of life - and having the tennis courts back in playable conditions means we now have a space that can bring a small community like Carcoar together.

“In the past no one really had played tennis in Carcoar for ages because of the sad and sorry state of the courts.”
