LITHGOW WORKIES NEW GENERATOR ALL FIRED UP
The Lithgow and District Workman’s Club is the new owner of a Caterpillar C18 Emergency Backup Diesel Generator thanks to a $486,747 grant from the NSW Local Economic Recovery Fund.
The generator will provide power to the club in the event of loss of power due to power outages or extreme events such as bushfires, storms, or snow. This will allow the club to remain open and in operation no matter the disaster and become a safe haven for locals who may need assistance.
Member for Bathurst Paul Toole said the grant funded the purchase and installation of the new equipment.
“We all know how unpredictable natural disasters and weather events can be. This generator ensures there is somewhere in Lithgow that residents can rely on to have electricity supplying them warmth, food and shelter,” Mr Toole said.
“This is a high tech piece of machinery that will automatically take over powering the facility if triggered by a power outage.”
Staff at the Lithgow Workies have been trained to use and maintain the generator with a local contractor regularly servicing the machine so that it is ready to spring into action at a moment’s notice.
