Local Member Paul Toole has welcomed the announcement of a main works contractor being appointed for the $200 million Bathurst Hospital Redevelopment.

Mr Toole said that after months of pressuring and questioning the Minister for Health and NSW Health for an update on the project, we finally have some answers.

“Congratulations to Icon and Lipman for being awarded the major project, I look forward to seeing shovels in the ground on site and the redevelopment taking shape,” Mr Toole.

“The original timeline has been thrown out the window as we are already months behind, but progress is progress and this is a major step forward in the right direction.”

The joint venture will see the international expertise from Icon Construction combine with the local knowledge of Lipman to get the best outcome for the Bathurst community. Bathurst based Lipman have been established in the area for nine years now and have built other critical infrastructure projects such as Millthorpe Public School, Bletchington Public School and Opal Aged Care Bathurst.

“It is great to know locals will be building this local project, their knowledge and expertise is critical to getting this hospital redevelopment right for the people of the Bathurst region,” Mr Toole said.

“Carparking continues to be an issue, and I will continue to fight to have better accessibility as part of this redevelopment.

“Parking is not just a matter of convenience—it’s a matter of access to healthcare. The hospital is an essential service, and it’s vital that those who need it can access it easily.”

It is understood that construction will begin in the coming months and the project is due for completion in 2028.
