BATHURST BULLDOGS EXPANSION COMPLETE

A new era for Ashwood Park has been launched today by Member for Bathurst Paul Toole and Bathurst Bulldogs President Phil Newton who officially opened new amenities for the sporting precinct.

Over $500,000 in NSW Government funding and club savings were used to extend the clubhouse and build brand new female changerooms and accessible amenities. In addition, there is also a new meeting room, dedicated umpire room and storage facilities.

Member for Bathurst Paul Toole has been a strong supporter of the Bathurst Bulldogs Club and was pleased to see the upgrades completed in time for this year’s season.

“Bulldogs has a rich 150-year history with Bathurst, and they have continued to grow in size and talent,” Mr Toole said.

“Whether it’s the social, physical or mental health benefits sport has a significant place in the Australian lifestyle and I am pleased to see investments made by the former NSW Government being put to good use.

“These upgrades will cater for the inundation of female players taking up the sport of rugby union and support the wider movement towards more female participation across all sporting codes.”

Bathurst Bulldog’s have produced some stellar female players including Jacinta Windsor a current player with the NSW Super W Rugby side, Claudia McLaren playing for the Super W Rugby Presidents XV, Jakiya Whitfeld playing Australian 7’s before then representing Australian Women’s Rugby League and Marita Shoulder being selected in the Australian Women’s Police side.

Club President Phil Newton said it was a momentous day for the club with the opening coinciding with Memorial Day.

“Memorial Day is a special annual event where we invite all old boys back to catch up and pay respects to any mates who have passed away. It is also our biggest annual fundraiser for charity auction off the first grade jerseys.

“Ashwood Park has been our home since 2006 and has proven to be extremely successful both on and off the field, with 25 premierships across the grades and 9 club championships, plus off the field we have donated more than $300,000 to community groups.

“The clubhouse extension coupled with the new carpark means we can have more players and more spectators enjoy the game of rugby here in Bathurst.”
